Day 1

I need to get going in a more positive direction.  This all pertains to physical wellness and a   more positive outlook on things from a mental standpoint.  I believe these are connected, and poor food choices and physical apathy, or willful laziness, are the catalysts to my overall health and happiness, or lack thereof.

Started off today well... good food choices and a 2.2 mile walk.  The walk had a large hill with a headwind to contend with.  If it doesn't sound like a lot, it probably isn't for many people.  For me, it is a great accomplishment.  I decided to make a good choice and get outside before I took the opportunity to make choices that moved me in negative way and kept me in the cycle of poor food choices and physical lethargy.

While I was out walking, I came up with a short-term goal for this week.  Something to focus on that doesn't seem so lofty to start off with.  I plan to walk and/or run five miles this week.  After day one, I am 40% of the way there.  This is much better than the way I have gone about it in the past, where I make my initial goal difficult to attain.  I figure that if I go beyond the five miles, well, then that's okay.  That's great!  Ultimately, I just need to keep moving and not be thrown off course by unrealistic goals.  Meeting a small goal is better than falling short of a much larger goal, at least to begin with.  I'm not afraid of falling short of goals, but I want to do what I can to psychologically push me in a consistent motion forward.

My goal for this week is to complete five miles.
My ultimate goals are to lose half my body weight (160 pounds) and to run the Mesquite Marathon in November 2014.
